Mondulkiri Plans to Place Gold Mining Area for Tourists to Visit

MONDULKIRI: The Mondulkiri Provincial Administration, in cooperation with the private sector, plans to improve its gold mining area for tourists to visit and explore the natural beauty.

The Governor of Sen Monorom City in Mondulkiri Province, Hiek Sophan, told the National Radio that in order to provide more rich entertainment venues to attract tourists and increase their long-term stay in Mondulkiri, the provincial authorities plan to cooperate with a private company, Renaissance Minerals Ltd., to reorganize the gold mining area in the province as a place for tourists to come and explore, relax, and see the process of gold extraction to refinement, as well as its transformation into precious jewelry.

The provincial authorities plan for there to also be guided tours to explain the gold mining process to tourists. Governor Hiek Sophan stated that in the future, there will be a lot of job opportunities for people in that area.

Renaissance Minerals (Cambodia) Ltd. is the first company to start producing gold in Cambodia. The company officially launched its business on 21 June 2021.
